USC’s Graduate Career Services within the Marshall School of Business is seeking a Career and Outreach Strategist, Master of Science in Business Analytics program to join its team.

The role of the Career and Outreach Strategist,  Master of Science in Business Analytics will advise and work closely with students from the MSBA program to deliver appropriate job candidate preparation activities, such as communication skills, networking, interviewing, resume writing and career action plans.  The role will also prioritize a relationship building and business development strategy to increase Marshall’s brand building efforts across multiple industries and business functions to grow Marshall’s footprint with hiring firms to increase employment opportunities for Marshall’s MSBA program.

Responsibilities and Duties

The candidate must have a strong understanding of current recruiting and employment trends for business analytics professionals to broaden the employer base for Marshall.  The person in this role must be able to advise Marshall MSBA students on effective job search strategies and techniques. Knowledge and experience with behavioral interviewing, communication skills, networking and personalized search techniques for summer internships and full-time positions is a requirement. Knowledge and experience with technical interviewing is a plus, including case style interviewing and interviewing for highly technical roles.

This position supports the collaborative efforts of the Graduate Career Services Employer Relations team to plan and execute an outreach strategy to target employers seeking “entry level” business analytics positions for candidates with less than one year of work experience resulting in partnerships that will increase Marshall’s visibility as a valued partner for highly skilled talent for summer internships and full-time positions.

The candidate should possess the following ability to:

  • Understand and analyze company business models, sector trends and future employment opportunities; manage and expand corporate partnerships with companies and functional professionals seeking Marshall Master’s degree talent.
  • Communicate with human resource professionals to understand human capital demands in order to translate industry trends into an effective outreach strategy.
  • Understand the difference between advising and coaching and be able to apply both as required by all students regardless of background and experience.
  • Support the execution of outreach visits as well as networking and hiring events attended by students, alumni and employers.
  • Educate and train students on the aptitude and skill necessary to take advantage of opportunities within the corporate and non-profit, sectors.
  • Design and deliver career-related education in classroom settings.
  • Work collaboratively with Graduate Career Services staff, faculty, student services and admissions staff, including the USC Career Center.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year
  • Minimum Field of Expertise: Related education and experience in counseling and career services and advisement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred Education: MBA or professional graduate degree highly preferred; business or psychology preferred.
  • Preferred Experience: 5- 7 years in the direct advising and coaching of individuals.
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Candidate will have an understanding and experience in all areas outlined above with a track record of delivering successful results. Significant comfort level with technology, including CRM systems and career management platforms. Strong interest and ability to drive innovation.
