Director, Rady Graduate Career Connections

The UC San Diego Rady School of Management provides business education through its PhD program, Masters degree programs, undergraduate minors and courses, and executive business seminars. DESCRIPTION
The Director of Graduate Career Connections is responsible for the overall development and management of a comprehensive set of professional career services designed for Rady School MBA students, other graduate business students, and Rady School of Management alumni. Reporting to the Rady School Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs, this position supervises 8 professional career advisors, interacts with faculty, and develops relationships with all graduate business students (MBA, Masters of Finance, Masters of Business Analytics, Masters of Accountancy). The Director is focused on enhancing the student experience as it relates to career development and in obtaining full employment for all graduate business students.

The Director sets objectives and plans strategies designed to provide the Rady School with the capability to provide job placement and career planning to its constituent groups consistent with a nationally ranked top-tier graduate business program. A key function of this leadership role is to develop long term business relationships with national and regional corporate employers to promote employment opportunities for Rady School graduate students. The position makes presentations to and leads workshops with employers, prospective applicants, current graduate students, alumni, faculty, and other career professionals.

In addition to overseeing the management of all operations, policies and procedures, and budget of Graduate Career Services, the Director has a high degree of autonomy in developing programs, delivering career workshops and programs, identifying necessary resources and setting long-term strategies, which have a major impact on the national ranking of the Rady School.

The Director represents the UCSD Rady School of Management at national, regional and local MBA professional organizations such as the MBA Career Services Council and the Graduate Management Admissions Council. In consultation with the Rady Director of Corporate Partners and the Rady Sr. Director of Development , the Director manages corporate relationships with the ultimate goal of recruiting. This position also takes an active role in the Admissions process.

This position is an exempt supervisory position; it is not eligible for overtime. Occasional overnight, multi-day travel (domestic and international) is required. Please submit a cover letter for a complete application.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong understanding of the MBA /business marketplaces and corporate environments. Experience creating strategy related to business trends and employment opportunities for graduate business students.

  • Management experience supervising multiple career staff, creating policies, supervising career-related programming, corporate outreach, providing career advising, assessing process improvements, managing a budget, and creating and implementing new programs.

  • Experience interpreting the complex rules of a large university pertaining to academic achievement; experience with employment/internship needs and conversion rates, student life, faculty engagement, etc.

  • Supervisor experience: staffing, hiring, coaching, evaluating, training professional and support staff. Experience introducing an atmosphere of customer service excellence in a student-centric environment.

  • Experience maintaining a positive work environment, delegating and assigning tasks, monitoring productivity and quality of work, setting clear and reasonable performance standards and developing staff to their highest potential.

  • Demonstrated experience establishing overall departmental goals, new strategies and tangible deliverables related to career programs, partnerships, services, and employment.

  • Experience planning and delivering resume workshops, interview skills workshops, job search workshops, panel discussions, speakers' series and other presentations geared to career development and job/internship searches for a sophisticated audience. Career advising experience.

  • Advanced degree or combination of education and work experience in the area of human resources administration, business administration, student affairs, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated experience using knowledge of student data systems and Excel to capture data or track performance metrics, employment data, student satisfaction, student participation metrics.

  • Experience cultivating relationships with high level executives and employers related to employment and internships. Experience interacting with high profile employers locally, nationally, and internationally.

  • Experience in developing, implementing and managing an annual plan,to increase student participation in career programming and to increase employer participation in career programming.

  • Experience developing market/public relations communications vehicles, such as online newsletters, brochures, web pages, etc. Experience developing themes; excellent written communication skills.

  • Expert presentation skills. Extensive experience presenting information to individuals, small groups, and large groups. Excellent verbal communication, written communication, prioritization, collaboration, and organization skills.

Preferred:

  • Significant experience working with an international population, creating programming or approaches to enhance international students' employment opportunities, with sensitivity to the needs of international students acclimating to the US culture, educational system, academic/professional/social expectations. Experience supervising OPT and CPT programs.
