Executive Director, Career Management Center
Who we are
The Mays Business School’s graduate Career Management Center serves as a connector between graduate business students and employers. Highly trained professional staff utilize one-on-one, individualized career coaching consultations as well as group sessions and training seminars to help students develop career plans, polish professional skills, prepare for the job search, and make essential connections to take a career to the next level. The center’s staff provides career services to graduate students enrolled in thirteen different programs including four generalist Masters programs (the full-time MBA, working professionals MBA, executive MBA, and MS-Business), and nine specialty Masters programs (Accounting, Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Financial Management, Human Resources, Marketing, Management Information Systems, and Real Estate). In addition, the staff work closely with employers to help identify and connect to emerging talent (students) with the right background to contribute to the company or organization.
The Career Management Center is part of the graduate programs division of the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University, the second largest public university in the United States. What we want
The Executive Director sets the vision and strategy for the Mays Business School Career Management Center serving graduate students as well as alumni. Is responsible for determining the career coaching services needed by students and the best internal staff or external vendors to provide those services for all master’s programs in Mays. Is responsible for fostering new and existing relationships with corporate representatives. Promotes Mays Business School and our graduate students to generate appropriate internship and full-time employment opportunities aligned with students’ ambitions and that advance the reputation of the college. Is responsible for all career data reported in rankings and for accreditation. Seeks national best practices and implement those in Mays to ensure our students are the best prepared and raise the visibility and reputation of Mays Business School. Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ten years of progressively responsible management experience with a track record of delivering outstanding results, progressive career management and/or corporate experience including significant leadership and change management, supervisory, and team-building experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Career coaching skills
Ability to sell programs and develop job opportunities
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
Ability and willingness to do extensive overnight travel

Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Business Administration
More than ten years of progressively responsible management experience with a track record of delivering outstanding results, progressive career management and/or corporate experience including significant leadership and change management, supervisory, and team-building experience
Experience in human resource management, talent acquisition and development, university career services or corporate university relations department

Leadership, visionary, and managerial skills coupled with ability to inspire and sustain a high performing team

Ability to work with diverse groups of people ranging from undergraduate students, to MBA's, to recruiters, to senior level executives and more
Superior communication and presentation skills, successful relationship building and collaboration skills
Strong public relations skills and ability to implement campaigns targeting both internal and external audiences
Demonstrated facility to cultivate, strengthen and expand employer relationships
Ability to produce measurable results in a dynamic, goal-driven environment
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Keen understanding of outcomes-based assessment and ability to implement

Leadership and Administration of Career Center and Staff - Manages strategic planning and development while providing strategic direction and leadership to inspire and sustain a dynamic, high performing and collaborative team. Develop a strategic planning timeline and schedules major planning events. Hires, trains, supervises/directs, motivates, and evaluates departmental staff. Leads the development of short and long term goals and objectives for the Center. Participate in development of Mays Business School mission, strategy and outcomes. Champions innovation, impact, and continuous improvement within Mays to achieve the center's vision and strategy. Has decision making authority and is required to use sound, independent judgment in routine and complex situations. Assesses staff ability to contribute to department goals and achieve individual performance plans. Provides regular feedback and complete annual performance reviews. Engages in on-going planning, assessment and evaluation to ensure the continual improvement and innovation for effective programs and services that meet the changing needs of students, alumni and employers. Oversee all career center operations. Ensures the delivery of superior career services, business development, employer relations, career coaching, career management courses, and new career program development. Ensures coordination, continuity, and support of existing programs. Oversees implementation and operation of career management information and student coaching records systems to track individual students, assess market and employment trends, and provides ready access to comprehensive data for internal planning and external reporting requirements. Develops, directs, and oversees the data collection, analysis and outcomes reporting processes. Regularly reports employment outcomes, student status, employer development, and relations outcomes and other pertinent information to Associate Dean and other administrative staff and faculty. Prepares, administers, and manages budget and other funds allocated to department. Exhibits personal and professional integrity, behavior and demeanor. Adheres to the mission, values, standards, policies and procedures of the university and school when representing Texas A&M University and the Mays Business School and performing duties of the position. Recommends new departmental and University-wide policies or revisions to existing policies.
Outreach - Leads, directs, and promotes the Mays Business School as a recruitment destination for local, national, and global organizations. Is responsible for working collaboratively with a wide variety of administrative and academic departments across the university community along with the business community and amongst former students. Meets with and consults with employers including top executives, HR leaders, and recruiters to devise effective, customized strategies for campus relations and recruiting initiatives that provide meaningful opportunities for Mays students and alumni. Develops and implements an annual plan for employer relations and development. Develops new contacts and/or revitalize existing connections with external organizations for purpose of expanding employment opportunities for students and alumni. Garners feedback and assesses effectiveness of employer relations and development plan and any recruiting activity. Makes adjustments as needed and drive any necessary change. Leverages assets of the school and collaborate with internal colleagues to raise visibility of the Mays brand and expands strategic external relationships. Serves as a key ambassador for the School interacting with professional associations and external constituents. Enhances relationships and foster partnerships with external constituencies including employers, donors, vendors, parents/families and/or other external stakeholders. Establishes and maintains strong partnerships with academic departments and faculty to develop a shared vision and plan to prepare students for the job market and enhance employment opportunities. Works effectively with student organizations and leadership groups. Assesses and responds to needs, and leads the development and oversight of regular communication updates from the career center as deemed appropriate.
Career Development Education/Coaching of Students/Teaching - Collects and reviews best practices information for career education and coaching services. Implements framework and standards for delivery of career development services to Mays students and alumni. Develops (and encourages staff to develop) innovative programs and services that meet the changing needs of students and alumni. Leads the collection, organization, and analysis of occupational, educational, and economic information for use in planning and directing career services and employment placement. Oversees development, curriculum planning and delivery of career sessions at new student orientations for graduate students as well as teach the Career Management course for MBA students. Creates and provides programming for student clubs/organizations upon request. Leverages employer and alumni involvement in coaching/career development programming offered to students. Performs other duties as assigned.
