Assistant Director of Career Management

Johnson’s Career Management Center prepares MBA students from both the residential and executive programs for a competitive job market with advising, workshops, networking, and access to appropriate tools/resources.
Reporting to the Director of the Career Management Center for Johnson, the Assistant Director will serve as a functional and industry generalist advising students pursuing a variety of career paths with a focus on our International Students and the One-Year MBA population. Coaching duties may include advising on resume and cover letter writing, networking, interviewing skills, job search strategies, and U.S. work authorization policies and immigration trends. This position will also provide a wide variety of career programming support across the Two-Year and One-Year residential MBA programs.
Other key responsibilities for this position include:
Ownership of the One-Year MBA summer Career Development Curriculum. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of Career Management to provide vision and tactical leadership for a suite of rigorous summer career preparation activities delivered to the One-Year MBA population over the summer term.
Ownership of career peer mentor program (Career Work Group Leader Program) and an associated 1.5 credit leadership development course (Johnson Career Work Group Leader Fellows course). The Assistant Director will oversee the coordination of our marquee Career Work Group Program. Typically enlisting 100+ student volunteers per year, this program is a critical part of Johnson’s placement success and is run in collaboration with the Office of Leadership Programs and The Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
Close collaboration with Student Services to design and execute orientation programming and international student orientation programming for One and Two-Year MBA populations.
Development and delivery of innovative, creative, and engaging career education content for both in-person and virtual formats.
Coordination of virtual career onboarding programs for One and Two-Year MBAs (currently delivered via Canvas).
Representation of Johnson and Cornell in international student career advising groups among peer schools and national level conferences.
Support of Diversity Recruiting initiatives as needed (NBMBA, Consortium, Forte, MBA Veterans, etc.)
Internal collaboration with the Offices of Admissions, Alumni Affairs, Leadership Programs, Diversity and Inclusion, etc., to improve the current student experience and bolster Johnson’s image in the marketplace.
Corporate relationship management and new business development as needed.

Assistant Director of Career Management

Posting Start Date:
3 years of work experience in a corporate or university setting.
An MBA degree or equivalent.
5 or more years in a corporate setting, MBA career management, or MBA student services role.
Successful track record of driving results and with high levels of client satisfaction.
Experience coaching and mentoring MBAs and/or graduate-level students.
Experience developing and executing orientation programs, career development curriculum, stand-alone job search skill development seminars, peer coaching programs, and/or career/leadership skills courses.
Familiarity with a range of student-centered pedagogical approaches to learning and new skill development.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Understanding of MBA program rankings and key career services metrics.
Familiarity with traditional MBA career pathways and the current job market.
Experience working with international students or experience demonstrating intercultural communicative competency.
Familiarity with U.S. immigration policies and trends affecting MBA-level graduates.
Familiarity with common career services technologies/ CRMs / edTech platforms, such as 12Twenty, Canvas, Qualtrics, Vmock, MBA Exchange, and Salesforce.
Comfortable working with both high levels of autonomously and as part of a team.
Experience in corporate relationship development and maintenance.
