The Career Development Office’s (CDO) mission is to empower students to realize their full potential and secure meaningful careers that make an impact in the world. The Baltimore, MD, and Washington, D.C., based team include career coaches, employer relations professionals, and solutions/strategy team members from diverse backgrounds and industries. The Carey Coaching and Education team take a holistic approach to career and professional development/transition. The CDO’s network model allows students and employers to work closely with CDO staff aligned by seven interest areas, or networks: Consulting, Finance, Health Care, Marketing, Real Estate, Social Impact, and Technology and Innovation.
The Associate Director of Coaching and Education (Career Coach):
• Works 1:1 and in groups with full-time and part-time graduate business students and Carey alumni to provide career coaching and education to help students/alumni to realize their potential, build their professional brand, increase their readiness to network with global employers and alumni, and achieve their unique career goals.
• Designs and implements in-person and virtual experientially-based career education and professional development programs.
• Partners with an Employer Relations team member to co-lead career education, programming, and industry insights/connections/opportunities for one of the seven CDO Networks.
• Creates networking and mentoring opportunities for assigned student populations.
• Collaborate with Coaching and Education and entire CDO team members, Carey colleagues, JHU stakeholders, and the Director of Coaching and Education on department and cross-department/university initiatives.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Career Coaching (60%)
• Coach individuals and groups across all Carey student and alumni populations to develop professionally and attain their career goals.
• Utilize coaching techniques and resources that meet the needs of diverse populations, including International students.
• Serve as primary coach and CDO partner for group of Full-time MBA students from pre-orientation through graduation.
• Administer and interpret assessments, including CareerLeader, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and CliftonStrengths.
• Collaborate with members of the Global Engagement and Employer Relations teams to develop coaching plans and strategize how best to work with individual students and alumni.
• Maintain accurate and complete coaching records.
• Follow-up with students and alumni as needed to track progress and encourage engagement with the Career Development Office.
• Participate in case discussions and reviews with Coaching and Education staff.
Program Development (25%)
• Design and deliver in-person and virtual customized career education programs (video/online content, workshops, panels, networking events, employer treks, professional development courses) and services for students and alumni.
• Develop strategic relationships and collaborate with key academic stakeholders (program directors, faculty, etc.) to facilitate continuous needs assessment and the effective implementation of professional development for students and alumni.
• Measure the efficacy of professional development programs and use outcomes-based data to influence programming.
• Identify and/or develop materials and resources that support programming and career education efforts.
• Assist with communication efforts to promote initiatives and resources of the Career Development Office via list-serv, webpages, social media and website.
Project Management (15%)
• Lead and/or collaborate on projects that support the mission of the Career Development Office.
• Represent the Career Development Office on Carey and University-wide committees as assigned.
• Engage internal partners within Johns Hopkins community (i.e., Bloomberg School of Public Health, School of Advanced International Studies, the JHMI Professional Development and Career Office (PDCO), the Office of Integrative Learning and Life Design (ILLD), Hopkins Connect, and Hire Hopkins) in order to share resources and best practices.
• Actively engage with professional organizations in the career development field, and follow trends, resources and innovations in the career development space.

Commensurate with Experience
Posting Start Date:
• Master’s degree required in counseling, psychology, human resources development, college student personnel administration, higher education administration, business or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of related professional experience.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
• 3-5 years post graduate work experience in coaching/counseling, career services, recruiting, consulting, and/or talent management.
• Certification or licensure as a professional coach or counselor; preferred emphasis in career development/transition.
• Facilitation, teaching and/or training experience presenting to both large and small groups, virtually and in-person.
• Experience working with diverse and global student and alumni populations, with a demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.
• Certification and/or experience utilizing varied career assessments.
• Experience working in or preparing students for consulting industry employment, including cases interview preparation (current network alignment will be with the CDO Consulting Network).

• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and is motivated to engage with students, alumni, colleagues and others to helps students meet their unique career goals and secure meaningful career opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate change and help individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds (including International students) with varying degrees of professional experience accomplish their goals.
• Knowledge of career development theory and practice, and ability to apply this in the design and delivery of individual and group coaching services.
• Knowledge of and experience utilizing assessments, including CareerLeader, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and CliftonsStrengths.
• Strong interpersonal, team collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to design and deliver impactful presentation and facilitate groups.
• Strong attention to detail, with ability to maintain accurate records and track coaching progress.
• Creative and innovative, with the ability to think outside of the box.
• Ability to effectively organize and lead project teams.
• Proficient with technology (MS Office Suite, MS Teams, Handshake, Zoom, CRM, video recording/editing) and interested in identifying and adopting technology to reach and connect with target audiences.
• Knowledge of service delivery models and resources used in business school career services.
• Flexible and resilient attitude, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate change.
Any Specific Physical/Additional Requirements for the Job:
• Must be willing to travel between campuses to meet with students, alumni and colleagues.
• Work occasional evenings or weekends as needed (average of 3-4 Saturdays per semester; most dates can be set based on employee’s availability).
