Career Advising and Corporate Outreach - Consulting Vertical Lead
Application closes on May 18, 2022.
Under the general supervision of the Director of MBA Career Advising, Career Advisor - Consulting Vertical Lead of the Parker Career Management Center ("Parker CMC") serves the job search and career development needs of the students in UCLA Anderson's full-time MBA program. Parker CMC provides career services for UCLA Anderson's FTMBA students (approximately 700 students), which include a 2-quarter career course, one-on-one advising with a professional staff, the Anderson Career Teams (ACT) program, ongoing job search skills workshops, and other career development programs. The Parker CMC conducts the Campus Recruiting Program, which oversees employer relationships and recruiting activities to facilitate their hiring needs. Parker currently consists of a team of 14 employees.
The primary responsibility of this role is as an advisor in both generalist and Consulting industry vertical-specific capacities. The advisor helps MBA students work through the career search process, including self-assessment, networking, researching and targeting of industries and organizations, resume and written communication development, interviewing, and decision-making and negotiation. The advisor must have a deep understanding and knowledge of MBA-relevant careers and have the ability to develop a deep knowledge base of specified industry verticals in order to manage the needs of students seeking jobs in those verticals, including interacting regularly with the related student industry clubs, as well as UCLA Anderson alumni employed in those industries. He/she/they will also contribute to the execution of the Parker Career Series course as well as various career-oriented workshops covering any facet of the career search process, presentations and panel discussions, and demonstrate creativity to organize effective programming.
Due to the nature of the MBA recruiting process in the Consulting industry, this career advisor will also need strong organization and program development and vendor management skills in order to coordinate and conduct various training programs (primarily around case interviewing), including work with reputable vendors providing those services as well as the consulting student club, to prepare students for that unique process. In addition to the consulting vertical, this advisor may also have alignments with a few other industries with smaller number of interested students.
The secondary role of the incumbent is in corporate outreach, in which he/she/they will partner with Parker CMC Employer Account Managers to develop and enhance relationships with firms that recruit MBAs, primarily those in management consulting. This requires strong strategic thinking and communication skills in order to engage effectively with recruiters and other corporate representatives that hire MBAs and discuss trends and best practices around MBA students' career interests. Due to nature of how Consulting firms recruit and large number of students who pursue them, this engagement will require detailed understanding of individual firms' hiring practices and timelines as well as tracking their KPIs of those firms and students pursuing consulting.
The incumbent are serves as a central liaison with several career-focused student groups and clubs at UCLA Anderson, including overseeing several of the Anderson Career Teams (ACT) that are aligned with their industry vertical(s). ACT is a peer coaching program where second years students coach first years grouped by industry alignment, and the incumbent is expected to interview and choose coaches and then execute the program for his/her verticals. The position will also be the lead contact and adviser for several clubs to guide them on developing and executing career-related training and corporate events and represents the school at networking events both on and off campus as needed. |
